Cheap Party Favors – Girls
Even if you have only one child, there are plenty of occasions for girl’s parties throughout the year. It’s always nice to be able to provide party favors for the guests to take home, but sometimes this can be an expensive addition to the party. Here we have some ideas for cheap party favors that win applause from the kids, whether they’re first graders, pre-teens or teens. Each of these party favors can be wrapped in tissue paper and tied shut with a strand of ribbon. You can put one package in front of each girl’s place setting, or put them all together in a big basket to hand out as the kids are leaving for home. Kids love surprises and it’s a nice ‘thank you’ to the kids for coming to join in the party celebrations.
First, where to look for cheap party favors: craft stores, the discount dime stores, toy departments and dollar type stores are good places to shop. Thrift stores are good for kid’s jewelry, cute little figurines and other one-of-a-kind party favors.
For young kids, a box of crayons, markers, coloring books and stickers are always a great choice. As you probably know, kids always need a good supply of these play time staples. There’s no such thing as too many! Craft shops always have a big selection of rubber stamps, with dozens of designs, for as little as 50 cents each. Check the toy section of the dollar type stores for bins of those flexible, Gumby-style characters, sticker packages and little bottles of lotion. Jars of bubble soap, with a wand attached, is another delightful, but absolutely cheap party favor, which provides hours of entertainment. Miniature toy cars and trucks make a good prop for games which involve dolls or Gumby characters traveling to imaginary locations over hill and dale.
Pre-teens still have one foot in childhood, making their way into adolescence. They still enjoy crayons, markers and coloring books. They also like the rubber stamps, using them to decorate writing paper for personalized stationery. Girls that are now in the 10 to 12 age group start leaning towards ‘beauty’ products, such as lip gloss, nail polish and barrettes. Other cheap party favors to consider for the pre-teen set include scented candles, single silk roses (look for these in craft stores or even at the supermarket) and tiny bouquets of dried flowers in a small glass bud vase. Girls this age are starting to want more sophisticated decorations for their rooms.
Girls already in their teens are all into the ‘beauty’ products. Being sensitive to the wishes of their parents, you can’t miss with costume jewelry, nail polish and sticker kits and light shades of lipstick. They, too, enjoy anything that smells good, such as lightly scented lotions, candles and hair ornaments of any kind.
If you have 10 guests coming to your girl’s party, your cost for any of these cheap party favors probably won’t exceed $10 for the whole group. That’s certainly not much for all those smiling faces and happy memories!
